Uruguay will be one of the opponents for England in the group stages of the World Cup 2014. Ahead of this competition, Uruguay defender Diego Godín says that Roy Hodgson’s men should not only be concerned about in the form of Luis Suarez, but plenty others as well. Suarez heads into the World Cup after a remarkable year in which he is certain to finish the season as the top scorer in England. He could in fact challenge the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the European Golden Boot award. The striker has already scored 28 league goals and he continues to display remarkable form every weekend.

Since he is a well-known player in England, Suarez has been marked as a potential threat even before the start of the World Cup. Godín, however, says that people often forget that there are several good players with the Uruguay national team apart from the likes of Suarez, Diego Forlan, and Edinson Cavani. He says that the likes of Cristian Stuani have proven over the years to be players of immense potential and talent. Uruguay will also have fond memories of the World Cup that was held in Brazil last time around.
They managed to beat the home team to win the title in 1950.
“To have Luis in the team is spectacular because he is an incredible player. He is one of the best strikers in the world and is showing now with Uruguay and Liverpool what we have known for many years. Everyone knows Cavani, Suarez and Forlan but we have a great team beyond the stars: Cristian “The Onion” Rodriguez, who plays down the left; Cristian Stuani, a midfielder with plenty of goals in him. We have a great squad,” said the defender about Uruguay’s strong squad.
