SUAREZ FIRES ATLETICO TO IMPORTANT VICTORY

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has been on fire for Atletico Madrid in theSpanish top flight this season as the capital club attempts to win a first league title in seven years. The Luis Suarez transfer business has proven to be a fantastic on from Atletico Madrid. The Uruguay striker joined Atletico Madrid at the start of the season after he was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Barcelona upon the appointment of new manager Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman made it clear that he didn’t want Luis Suarez in his team after his appointment as the new Barcelona boss was confirmed last summer. To this effect, Luis Suarez secured a transfer to Atletico Madrid after six years at Barcelona for a fee said to be around €6m. The transfer looks like a bargain now after the Uruguay national team star took on the responsibility of scoring the goals that could lead his new team to the league title at the expense of former team Barcelona.

Suarez was the scorer of the lone goal as Atletico Madrid beat Alaves 1-0 at home in their latest clash in La Liga over the weekend. The only goal of the game was scored on 54 minutes by the Uruguay player thus taking his tally to 19 goals in the league. He is in the race for the Pichichi with the likes of Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema. The Pichichi is the award given to the recipient of the most league goals in a season. Barcelona talisman Messi has 23 goals and he’s at the top of the scoring chart, while Real Madrid striker Benzema is third behind Uruguay player Suarez after his 17 goals this season.
