Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez claims that the dismissal of striker Edinson Cavani in the recent quarter-final match against Chile has left him with a bad taste in the mouth.

The Paris St Germain striker is seen as one of the important players in the team despite not having been a regular goal scorer like Luis Suarez. He was booked twice in the game against Chile and received the marching orders just into the second-half. Uruguay were level 0-0 with Chile at the time of his dismissal and they never really recovered to reach the semifinals.

Diego Forlan is credited with improvement in Uruguayan football

Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan is credited with rediscovering the passion within Uruguayan football after almost single-handedly guiding them to the semifinals of the 2010 World Cup.

Forlan was one of the best players in this tournament, but it also marked the start of his decline. The 35-year-old has no longer been able to compete with the younger names like Luis Suarez to be named in the squad. This was clearly evident from his absence in the latest squad announced by manager Oscar Tabarez for the friendly matches against Monaco and Guatemala.

Since the appointment of Oscar Tabarez as the head coach of Uruguay, the South American team has been enjoying going through fairly impressive campaign at the international stage.

Suarez Inspired By English Media Criticism

The Uruguayan superstar, Luis Suarez, has said that the criticism that he has received in the English media in the recent past and the statements made by the England boss Roy Hodgson about his class as a player inspired him to bring out his ‘A’ game against England at Arena de Sao Paulo the other day.

Suarez, single handedly, won the match for Uruguay that day. He was in the league of his own. He found the net a couple of times, once in each half, and almost knocked the Three Lions out of the tournament.
