The Uruguayan football national side suffered their 2nd defeat of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign on September 1st of the ongoing year as Uruguay faced off with Argentina and a lonely goal from Messi was enough for the Argentinean team to win the game.


Despite losing to Argentina, the head coach of the Uruguayan national side Oscar Tabarez still flattered Lionel Messi as his performance was once again sublime and this was a player that had announced his decision to retire from the international stage but 2 months later he regretted his initial choice s Messi returned to Argentina.

DIEGO GODIN PICKS UP ANKLE INJURY

Atletico Madrid star player Diego Godin has sprained his ligaments in his left ankle in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

The Uruguay international was at the centre of the defence on the night where the La Liga side defeated their German opposition.

Robert Lewandowski was restrained throughout the game by the watertight defence in which Godin was part of. Godin finished the game with an injury. It is unknown if the player would feature in the clash against Valencia in the La Liga on Sunday. Uruguay might miss out on the defender when they play Columbia and Venezuela next month in the World Cup qualifiers.

Uruguay has impressed in their FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualification quest

Uruguay has so far been going through an impressive run in their FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualification campaign after only losing 2 qualifying matches from their 8 opening matches.


The Uruguayan national side is currently pitted at the top of the CONMEBOL group after having collected 16 points from 8 games which is surprisingly more points than any other national side that is competing in the group.

The CONMEBOL group consists of: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The footballers in Uruguay have united to force the Football Association to agree to a deal from Nike instead of the one offered by their close rival Puma.

Luis Suarez frustrated after the elimination of Uruguay from Copa America

Luis Suarez, who did not start a game for Uruguay in the Copa America, was left frustrated following the elimination of his team.
