BARCELONA PLOTTING CAVANI MOVE?

Catalan giants Barcelona are reportedly plotting a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil. This is according to the publication from Sports Witness which claimed that Barcelona want to take the 20-year-old Spanish national team player on a temporary deal for the second half of the season.

North London team Tottenham Hotspur signed Spanish winger Gil from La Liga heavyweight Sevilla this summer in a swap deal that saw Argentine international Erik Lamela move in the other direction. Spurs paid £21.6m plus Lamela for Gil.

URUGUAY STRIKER TO MISS UCL CLASH

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez will miss the UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash between hosts Atletico Madrid and Lokomotiv Moscow at the new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on Wednesday night. The Atletico Madrid striker is on course to miss the game as he continues to self-isolate after testing positive to Covid-19.

Football Matches to Commence Soon in August

Fans of football in Uruguay do not have long to wait since August is the month that the games would reopen. However, it was initially slated to start from 8th August but it seems that restart of the matches would be delayed for a week more. There were reports of a new outbreak of the virus in Montevideo. That certainly puts the match between Penarol and Nacional on the backfoot. It is likely that it would be held on 14th August instead.


Many had marked 8th August as the date when the matches would commence in the country, a date set in the national association’s calendar. The Montevideo outbreak would probably delay it for a week or so. The match that is awaited is the head to head between Penarol and Nacional. That is mainly due to the pandemic which has some increase in cases being reported in the capital city. However, the football association has assured that the restart would only be delayed till the 14th of August and it would restart in the same month.

LAUTARO SIGNING END FOR SUAREZ?

 

Barcelona remains keen on landing Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, according to reports. Does this signal the end for Uruguay international Luis Suarez? The former Ajax and Liverpool man has had a brilliant run at the Nou Camp. He actually broke the duopoly of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when he won the Pichichi in 2016.

The prolific goalscorer also won the Golden Boot in the Premier League and has two European Golden shoes in his cabinet. He actually agreed for the club to bring in a new striker, and the arrival of Martinez would likely signal the beginning of the end for the Uruguayan.

Messi Returns Against Uruguay

Leonel Messi, Argentina and Barcelona captain is going to be included in the team of Lionel Scaloni for future fixtures against Uruguay and Brazil. He had served a ban of 3 months for the comments that he had made during the loss of Argentina to Chile in the play-off match for third place at Copa America. The forward player had accused CONMEBOL, the governing body of being corrupted after he had been sent off and suggested that Brazil is going to receive favorable treatment in their final match that was against Peru in which Canarihna had won 3-1.

The Return of Suarez, Cavani, and Godin

The Football Association of Uruguay announced that Edinson Cavani, Diego Godin, and Luis Suarez have come back to their football squad for playing the friendly matches against Peru that will be held in the coming months. They are considered as three of the vital players of the team. They missed the friendly matches that were played against the US and Costa Rica due to their leg muscle injuries. But they have recovered quickly and are all set to play the next match.

Oscar Tabarez is the head coach for Uruguay. He recalled the names of Gaston Pereiro, Mathias Suarez, and Nicolas Lodeiro. They have played as forward, defender, midfielder respectively for the nation. The preliminary list consists of 26 names and it only includes those who are based out of Uruguay. The Football Association of Uruguay has announced that they will release the final list of the players early in October. Peru will be hosted by Celeste in Montevideo on the 10th of October before a rematch happens after four days. The rematch will be held at the Estadio Nacional located in Lima.

Torreira Returning for Uruguay Quarter-Final against Peru

Lucas Torreira is all set to face Peru and this comes as a boost for Uruguay to win the quarter-final of Copa America on Saturday. The midfielder from Arsenal has again jointed his team in training at El Salvador after he suffered from an illness which involved weight loss and vomiting. Torreira who is twenty-three years old doesn’t have a part in 1-0 win against Chile as Uruguay managed to finish at the top of the Group C with 7 points. The late goal from Edinson Cavani has given them 3 points and the champion of 2011 is still unbeaten after the 4-0 crushing of Ecuador in the game against Japan that ended in a draw.

Torreira said that he managed to train normally along with the team and is feeling a little better. He mentioned that he spent 2 days in bed with vomiting, fever, and headache. However, he is recuperating. Torreira goes on to say that he has lost about 3 kilos and it has been a difficult time for him. Nevertheless, now he is feeling better and he believes that he is going to be prepared for the game. The return of Torreira to fitness is going replenish the stocks midfield which had been damaged by the forced withdrawal of Matias Vecino from the tournament because of an injury in the hamstring.

BARCELONA SET TO SWOOP FOR UNITED STAR

Barcelona faces Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinals today but one news that has been making the rounds is that of United forward Marcus Rashford. The 21-year-old has been embroiled in contract negotiations with the club and has yet to agree to a contract extension.

Rashford’s contract expires in 12 months and the Red Devils are looking to keep the England international who has reportedly demanded a huge wage o £300,00 a week. which would almost quadruple his current contract worth £80,000 a week.
